THIS ITEM HERE BECAUSE CHILDREN MENTIONED
We note this item - Regulation Review we thought had lost its staff - in reading both HOUR and COURANT articles Aug. 29, 2018 it appears separate agencies report individually minus staff reports to the Committee.

HOMESCHOOLING PUBLIC HEARING
http://www.courant.com/news/connecticut/hc-home-schooling-dcf-20180425-story.html

NOTE:  Children Committee and Health and Human Services - at least these 2 - will be in the mix next Session
Viewed in three (3) sittings.  Billed as dueling reports on the same subject, but in the end, Child Advocate and DCF Commissioner are both going to ready legislation...

DEVASTATING
Child Advocate argues for changes in home schooling.  She is a lawyer.

WAS OLDER CHILD ABUSED?
Commissioner of DCF points out that they were only legally allowed to explore younger child's issues.  Not allowed inside the house.  Commissioner was not only a lawyer but a member of the CT Supreme Court.

CT CHILDREN COMMITTEE MEMBERS CHIME IN
Several members on the Joint Committee have personal involvement with the issue of children with autism.  There seem to be home school advocates concerned with government overreach.

Ultimately it became clear to me that there will be legislation coming forward in the next Session beginning in February 2018 that in my opinion probably own't do anything to help.  We note that in other testimony by DCF staff (Ombudsman) it was noted that the number of hours spent going through case files from more than a decade about this particular extended family there were clues for sure in hindsight but still no way to apportion time and personnel considering the work load on DCF social workers.

CHOICES IN A DIFFICULT TIME
Senator somewhat convinced, or so it seemed to me, that this informational forum was indeed worthwhile.

WESTON CT CHILDREN AND YOUTH COMMISSION REVIVED

Wow indeed!  We do not follow this regularly but note that they should soon be hiring a new Executive Director.

Discussion of "Juvenile Review Board" on agenda.  What is a "JRB" (example found on Internet) - https://www.norwalkct.org/DocumentCenter/View/214/JRB-Brochure-3?bidId=
